Review: Facebar Skin Parlor at the Pencil Factory

Facebar Skin ParlorThis morning, I went down to the Pencil Factory Shops in order to check out Facebar Skin Parlor, a new skincare spa concept that has been getting rave reviews. In a time when $75-$125 facials are beyond most of our means, Facebar offers affordable and quick skincare without skimping on quality products and attention. Customers just sidle up to the custom bar built in the rear of Melange Hair Studio, clean their faces, and then get a skin analysis and recommendations for service, which can be anything from a basic facial to some of the most affordable microdermabrasion and chemical peels in Atlanta. Extractions, serums, waxing, and other treatments can be added on a la carte.

When I walked in, I was greeted by the lovely and hilarious Rachelle, one of the friendliest estheticians I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet. After cleansing my face, she performed a analysis on my off and on troublesome skin. Her recommendation: a light microdermabrasion service and some extractions, bringing the whole session to an easy $52.

Facebar uses a diamond-tipped microdermabrasion machine rather than traditional microdermabrasion crystals, which is less messy and actually somewhat pleasant feeling. The treatment left my skin super-exfoliated, baby soft, and glowing after pulling away all those dull, dead skin cells. Rachelle then prepped my face with a pore-loosening fluid and put me in front of a steamer at the bar. When I was ready, she performed a few extractions with a gentle hand, and then offered to wax my brows for free. I was due for a clean-up, so I took her up on the offer and enjoyed an efficient and perfect brow shaping.

By that point, my skin had been through quite the works, so she put calming serum on my face and then moisturized my face, eyes, and lips. When I got up from the comfortable reclining facial chair, I was thrilled to see how much my skin was glowing. What a pleasant surprise, that such an affordable and speedy facial service was also so effective! And at such a great price point, I can come back frequently, ensuring that I’ll always put my best face forward.

If you are busy and budget-minded, Facebar is obviously a great choice, but I would recommend it even to those who might otherwise choose a more traditional and expensive skincare experience. So head down to Decatur Street and get yourself cleaned up…I promise you won’t regret it!
