The Intown Brief: Downtown Atlanta News Shorts

It’s time for an overview of the biggest news and events happening around downtown Atlanta, Grant Park, the Old Fourth Ward, Reynoldstown, Cabbagetown, Sweet Auburn, Edgewood, and the rest of intown:

  • We’re sure you’ve heard: the Atlanta Thrashers are picking up and moving to Winnipeg. Our hockey team was purchased by a Canadian group interested in bringing an NHL franchise to the Manitoba city; the owners cited a lack of interest in hockey in Atlanta as the reason for selling. What do you think about the move? Will you miss the Thrashers?
  • Farmer’s market favorite The Little Tart Bakeshop will be opening up a new shop by August in Grant Park near Six Feet Under, in collaboration with Westside coffee heroes Octane. Pastries offered will include croissants, brioche with local fruit jam, scones, brunch puffs, fancy sweet and savory tarts, and quiches made with local bacon. Yum!
  • We have very little intel on what the “Auburn Avenue History & Cultural Project” is, but we do know that the Georgia Department of Transportation just awarded it with a $400,000 grant. Anything that helps to preserve the amazing history of Sweet Auburn is OK with us!
  • The best news? It’s sunny and gorgeous out. Go see a Braves game, take a walk in Oakland Cemetery, or grab lunch on the patio of one of intown’s fantastic restaurants. We said so.
