Ever thought about the resources it takes to care for and find a new home for a sheltered animal? Organizations like the Atlanta Humane Society rely on donations from animal lovers to provide food, medical care, shelter and home-hunting services for hundreds of homeless animals. It costs about $500 to provide those things for each and every animal lucky enough to be rescued by the Humane Society. That’s a lot of bones.
If you’re interested in doing something to help, this should make your tail wag. This Saturday, April 21, the Atlanta Humane Society is hosting its largest fundraising event – the 22nd annual Atlanta Pet Parade! Join other Atlanta animal lovers (and many of their pets) at Atlantic Station’s Central Park at 9am Saturday morning for a one mile walk to benefit the Atlanta Humane Society. In addition to the walk, the event will include games, pet vendors, contests, training demonstrations and of course bunches of fluffy adoptable animals!
The advance registration deadline has passed for the walk (no charge to watch the parade or explore the event outside of the walk), but you can still participate in the walk by registering in one of the following two ways:
- Go by the Atlanta Humane Society (981 Howell Mill Rd. – about a mile from Apex West Midtown) Friday April 20 between 10am and 2pm to register for $35 per person (advance rate was $30).
- Register the day of the event starting at 9am for $35 per person.
Please bring a check made out to the Atlanta Humane Society for either option.
Note: Kids don’t need to pay a registration fee, but allowing them to make a donation might be a great experience and lesson for them.
Additionally, though it might be a bit late to begin a fundraising campaign of your own, there are plenty of walkers who have been raising money for months that would love your support. You can donate online to any of them whether you attend the event or not – and remember that 100% of the proceeds go to support the Atlanta Humane Society.
