Staying in town for Memorial Day weekend? Great! There’s plenty to do in Atlanta!

Memorial Day

If you’re not heading to the beach or lake this Memorial Day, fear not!  There are a ton of fun events happening right here in Atlanta.   Take a look.

Atlanta Jazz Festival at Piedmont Park – Now in its 35th year, the Atlanta Jazz Fest takes place May 26-28 in Piedmont Park.  Performers include Tito Puente Jr., Roy Ayers and the Common Ground Collective.  The festival is free and attracts thousands every year.

Atlanta Caribbean Festival along the Auburn Avenue Corridor – Celebrate Caribbean culture right in Downtown Atlanta!   This festival, which takes place Saturday, May 26 includes a colorful parade of bands that begins at noon on West Peachtree street and ends on historic Auburn Avenue, just a hop, skip and a jump from the Pencil Factory Flats & Shops.   Bring your whole family to enjoy delicious Caribbean food, music and arts & crafts in the Festival Village beginning at 3pm.   Village admission is $15 for adults; kids 10 and under are free.

Atlanta Braves play the Washington Nationals Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.    Head over to Turner Field to catch the Braves at any one of these four day and evening games.  It’s the perfect all-American Memorial Day weekend activity.

Brew at the Zoo at Zoo Atlanta – Going to the zoo is fun enough on a regular day, but watching the animals with a beer in your hand makes it even better!   If this sounds like a fun idea to you, come out to Brew at the Zoo Saturday, May 26, from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm.   Tickets range from $38-$48 and include unlimited beer and wine sampling, your ability to roam free about the zoo and see the animals up close and personal and live music featuring Arrested Development!    The weather is looking perfect and this sounds like a great way to spend the evening.

Decatur Arts Festival at Decatur Square – Come Saturday or Sunday (or both) to Decatur Square for a fantastic day of art, shopping, music, food and sunshine at the 24th annual Decatur Arts Festival.   If you haven’t ever been to Decatur, this is a great opportunity to check out all this hip little corner of Atlanta has to offer.

The Goat Farm Hosts AM 1690’s ArtWorks Launch Party – Been looking for a reason to check out this Goat Farm everyone is talking about?    Well here’s your chance.  Come out Saturday, May 26 at 8:00 pm to celebrate the launch of ArtWorks, an event calendar site for arts volunteerism in Atlanta.   You’ll see a poetry reading from the Clermont Lounge’s Blondie, a crazy dancing puppet show and a performance from Jagged Stones, a Rolling Stones cover band.   And get this – the event is FREE for all ages!   The Goat Farm is located in West Midtown, just one mile from Apex West Midtown.

And of course, while you are out enjoying the long weekend with friends and family, we hope you take a moment to remember those who have died while fighting to protect our freedom.   Have a wonderful Memorial Day, Atlanta!
