The holidays can be an especially tough time to stay on your diet or exercise program. So many events; so many tasty treats! So, before you head to the first of many holiday gatherings, here are four tips to help you stay in shape while still enjoying this special time of year.
1. Eat a healthy snack before heading to your holiday gathering – especially if the event is not a true mealtime one like Thanksgiving. That way, instead of walking in to your party hungry, you’ll fill your stomach a bit with healthy foods and minimize the desire for the not-so-healthy ones, though you’ll still have room to indulge a bit.
2. Keep high-calorie holiday leftovers to a minimum in your home – especially baked goods. Limit yourself to indulging only when you are at holiday events and stick to your normal, healthy diet at home.
3. Keep moving! Take a walk around the neighborhood with family visiting from out of town. Check out the new BeltLine Eastside trail. Sign up for the Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon. Or just do your best to stick to your gym routine.
