BeltLine Update!

Historic Fourth Ward Park

2013 is off to a great start for the Atlanta BeltLine.   Here’s an update on a big news item for the Old Fourth Ward.

Just before the new year, Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. acquired property to connect the Eastside Trail with Historic Fourth Ward Park!    Once this link is made, the Eastside Trail will be connected to three major Atlanta parks – Piedmont Park, the Freedom Park Trail and Historic Fourth Ward Park.  The path will run just south of North Avenue and will allow current and future area residents (including those who move in to the Perennial Properties luxury apartment building under construction at North Avenue and Somerset) to access the park without ever getting in a car.

Historic Fourth Ward ParkIn other BeltLine news, Mayor Kasim Reed will lead the groundbreaking ceremony for the Southwest Connector Trail this Saturday, January 12, at 9:30 am next to Beecher Hills Elementary School.   Additionally, Febuary 6 is Atlanta Beltline Night at the Hawks game.  Support the Atlanta BeltLine and the Atlanta Hawks as they take on the Memphis Grizzlies.  Tickets are just $10 and include a pre-game reception.  The first 50 people to reserve a spot will also get to watch the NBA players warm up!

So here’s the usual plug:  You simply must go check out the Eastside Trail and the BeltLine project in general.   It’s an incredible addition to Intown Atlanta and a huge step toward making Atlanta a more connected, less car-reliant city.
