This lovely little crèperie and coffee shop popped quietly into the neighborhood about three months ago and has been growing in popularity ever since. Located at the corner of Lake and Ashland Avenues, Julianna’s is housed in the rustic basement level of a private home with its European-looking storefront facing Lake Avenue.
The story behind Julianna’s is quite sweet. After the death of his mother, owner Andrew Turoczi decided to create a place where the traditional Hungarian crèpe recipes he learned from her could be shared with and enjoyed by many. Step inside on a weekend afternoon, and you will find proof that this intention has been beautifully realized.
Julianna’s provides both sweet and savory offerings, including at least a couple daily specials to add to the mix. From the most basic “Cinnamon Toast” crèpe (whose delicacy surpasses its simplicity) to the more modernized “Sweet Spot” crèpe (featuring Cajun spiced ham and honeyed goat cheese) to the “Serf’s Special” crèpe (with Hungarian sausage, peppers, onions, scrambled eggs and paprika), Julianna’s truly has something for everyone. Also offered for sale are hot and cold drinks, specialty organic grocery items, and locally-sourced purveyances. There’s even wifi to encourage a comfortable settle and open Tuesday through Sunday from 8am to 6pm, Julianna’s is the perfect breakfast take-out alternative or brunch selection. Crèpes also make great after-school snacks, or so is the word on the street.
