I am an Atlanta native. So are my parents who were born and raised in the Virginia-Highland/Morningside area and my grandpa who was born in Inman Park in 1920. But despite my background, there is so much about Atlanta history I still need to learn. And now I have no excuse as the Atlanta Preservation Center is again hosting “The Phoenix Flies: A City-Wide Celebration of Living Landmarks.” The event, which began in 2003 as a way to increase our understanding of Atlanta’s heritage, provides FREE tours of Atlanta’s landmarks over a two-week period. Atlanta is a big city. With a lot of fantastic restaurants. It’s nearly impossible to try them all, right? Wrong! Ok, so this solution might not let you try ALL of Atlanta’s restaurants, but how about sampling from 50 of the best – all under one roof? Continue reading
Valentine’s Day is just four days away. But you’re not alone if you’re still searching for the perfect idea to make the day wonderful for that special someone in your life. To help you out a bit, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best events we’ve heard are happening in Atlanta. Choose one of these, and you’ll come out smelling like a rose. (Wouldn’t hurt to pick some of those up either, ya know…)
Get your Art On
Impress your date with a special Valentine’s night at the High Museum. The evening includes the “Picasso to Warhol: 14 Modern Masters” exhibit, music and dancing, a couples photo booth, food & drink and more. Ticket prices are $40.00 per couple, but that may not cover everything, so be sure to check out the details here.
Show off your Skating Skills
If you’re not concerned about looking foolish should you have to use the rink wall when you are otherwise unable to stop yourself, take your Valentine to ice skate at The Rink at Park Tavern in Piedmont Park. You’ll need to make an advance reservation for this one as there is a limit to the number of people who can be on the ice at once, but there are sessions available day and night and this will for sure be an activity your special someone will remember (especially if it has been years since you’ve stepped foot on ice). Warm up afterward over hot chocolate at Inman Perk to finish off the evening and you’ll be golden.
Learn to Cook
Show your Valentine that your culinary skills extend beyond making that perfectly browned grilled cheese sandwich when you take a Valentine’s Day Cooking Class together at The Cook’s Warehouse! There are multiple locations around Atlanta so find the one that works best for you and sign up soon!
If you’re more traditional and want to treat your Valentine to a romantic dinner, Barcelona Wine Bar in the N. Highland Steel community is the place to go – hands down. The newest Inman Park hotspot continues to get rave reviews – and it doesn’t get much more romantic than sharing wine from their extensive collection while sampling tasty Spanish tapas in this warm, intimate atmosphere (that includes a cozy outdoor fireplace). You will for sure need to make reservations to get a table here on Valentine’s Day as the secret’s out – it’s an ideal pick for an intimate dinner with your heartthrob.
Ok, so no excuses people. Show your love bug how you feel by making this Valentine’s Day a special one.
